Public Health to integrate nursing, medical providers, educators, community members, and students of color within the clinical research setting. Students and educators are tremendous community assets for health promotion education, cultural competency training and skill development, and as research participants. In partnership with the Minority Health Specialist, minority outreach and recruitment at Mayo Jacksonville, Scottsdale, and Rochester can become a reality. The ODCR is developing partnerships with predominantly Black and Latino serving institutions of learning such as San Diego State University, Morehouse School of Public Health, and Morehouse School of Medicine.
The ODCR has also established relationships with the Association of Black Cardiologist, the University of Pittsburgh Center for Minority Health, and is forging a relationship with the National Medical Association, the largest black physician group in the United States. The emphasis on establishing relationships with community members at the grassroots level is a primary vision for the outreach work. Collaborative work with some of the area churches has been ongoing to provide direct outreach, education, and care after Spanish masses. Cultural stories about health care and research participant activities, integrating photography, have been initiated.
