Director's Welcome

In keeping with the philosophy of service and the mission of Mayo Clinic for the past 100 years, we never forget that the ultimate goal of our medical research is to improve health and save lives. To make sure that our research has practical application in the real world outside our laboratories, we partner with local physicians and practitioners, community leaders, agencies, foundations and community members to learn about their needs and to work together to find answers.

The doctors and nurses in local clinics and hospitals are on the front lines when it comes to understanding public health needs. So are the leaders of minority communities, who can help us identify and eliminate the barriers that can create disparities in health care and health outcomes. The Mayo Clinic CTSA and Mayo Health System have embarked on an ambitious joint venture to create a practice-based research network that will help physicians in the 66 communities served by Mayo Health System to conduct research into the conditions and diseases that impact the lives of their patients the most. We see this initiative as central to the future of the Mayo Clinic CTSA, and hope it will become a model for partnerships around the country between academic medical centers and the healthcare providers in the communities they serve.
