Office of Diversity in Clinical Research (ODCR)

Overview

Founded in September of 1999, Mayo Clinic's Office of Diversity in Clinical Research (ODCR) emerged from a mandate by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to address the health disparity issues in all areas of clinical research at Mayo Clinic. The ODCR provides Mayo Clinic researchers with information and advice on protocol designs and recruitment strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate.

Mission

  • To increase and deepen community relationships with minority populations through outreach
  • Act as a liaison between the community and the research teams
  • Honor cultural ways of health and healing in education, patient care and research
  • To communicate medical and scientific concepts with culturally relative tools
  • Within our region we will identify and attempt to change the social and cultural factors that inhibit access to appropriate care and participation in clinical care and research opportunities
