Advanced Genomics Technology Center Microarray Shared Resource (AGTC MRS)

Director(s):

Eric Wieben, Ph.D. (Professor of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology)

Description:

The Advanced Genomics Technology Center Microarray Shared Resource (AGTC MSR) provides instrumentation, expertise and resources for Mayo Clinic researchers who study genes and the expression of gene transcripts in humans and animals. Our staff facilitates the completion of research studies by:

  1. assisting in study design
  2. performing the experiment
  3. assessing the quality of the data
  4. providing the data to the principal investigator of the study

Services/Equipment:

The facility provides DNA extraction services and gene transcript analysis by Affymetrix GeneChip™ arrays, Illumina BeadArrays™, and custom spotted microarrays. Instrumentation for genetic analyses by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is also available for Mayo staff to use on a fee-per-run basis. Resources are available for quantitative real-time PCR for gene transcripts and microRNAs as well as the detection of gene sequences and markers. Microarrays, such as the Affymetrix and Illumina platforms allow researchers to interrogate the whole genome, which provides information about gene transcript levels during the progression of disease.
