The Immunochemical Core Laboratory (ICL) is a specialized laboratory dedicated to providing immunochemical and chemistry testing for both clinical and basic science research throughout Mayo Clinic. The main functions of the ICL are:
Both the College of American Pathologists (LAP # 1808229, AU-ID: 1183838) and the Department of Health and Human Services (CLIA ID# 24D0861265) have certified the ICL for testing. Regulatory requirements include thorough test validation, documentation, standardized test procedures and on-going review of quality control markers. Proficiency samples are tested semi-annually for all tests performed. Documentation includes training and on-going competency of the ICL team.
The ICL contains automated chemistry and immunoassay analyzers and an API 5000™ LC/MS/MS System for chemical and protein analysis. The lab also performs many enzyme linked immunosorbant (ELISA) and radioimmunoassay (RIA) procedures for various analytes. Typical sample formats are blood components (serum, plasma), urine and saliva. The ICL has a strong development team for validation of new assays, and improvement of current assay methodology.
